Sergeant David Rose said: ‘It’s just an unfortunate tragedy.

‘You just got to be prepared to make sudden stops on the freeway. You never know what’s going to happen.’

The incident was then responsible for a second crash at the scene, according to police.

One of those attempting to help in the aftermath of the incident saw their car hit by another vehicle, officers say.

Rose added: ‘This [second] vehicle also stopped to try to help the woman. So the traffic behind them, they had to slam on their brakes and there was an accident that happened here.’

Another driver is then said to have been detained for driving under the influence in a third unrelated charge, ABC reports.
