Woman blasts a wedding guest for wearing a white dress

Wedding guest who wore WHITE is accused of trying to ‘get attention’ – but some insist it’s fine because her frock looks nothing like a bridal dress

  • A US woman accused a fellow wedding guest of dressing inappropriately
  • She posted a photo in a Facebook group shaming the woman for wearing white
  • Members were torn over whether it is appropriate to wear white as a guest

A woman who wore white to a wedding has divided opinion online.

The wedding guest donned the figure-hugging mini dress for the ceremony, believed to be in the US, but was later called out on her outfit choice on Facebook.

Sharing a photo of the offending frock on a wedding shaming group, a fellow guest argued it was inappropriate for someone else’s big day.

Hundreds of other users agreed, saying it was a bid to ‘get attention’ – but others claimed it was fine because the dress looked nothing like a wedding gown.

Arguing it is still in appropriate, one person wrote: ‘It’s just plain rude to wear white to a wedding. I’d be annoyed if someone wore this to my wedding, there are literally hundreds of colours to choose from why choose white.’

Another wrote: ‘It blows my mind there are people on here defending her white dress… wearing white to a wedding is NOT okay! NEVER HAS BEEN, NEVER WILL BE. It doesn’t matter if it’s an old rule…JUST. DON’T. DO. IT’

A third added: ‘So many colours to choose from and she chose to be an annoying garbage can and wear white to get attention how embarrassing for her.’

However the woman’s defenders claimed there is ‘nothing wrong’ with wearing white and it is time for the tradition to fall by the wayside.

Others argued there are many alternative colours and it's disrespectful to purposely wear white to a wedding

One person wrote: ‘Imo [in my opinion]… there’s really nothing wrong with wearing white to a wedding. This is obviously a cocktail dress and not an actual wedding dress. She’ll never be mistaken for the bride. We’ve got to let that dumb taboo die.’

Another said: ‘Unless a guest shows up in a wedding dress, can we please stop acting like it’s the end of the world to wear white?’

A third added: ‘I can’t believe it’s 2019 and we still put these weird boundaries on people’s clothes.’

A number of responses to the post argued that it should be acceptable to wear any colour to weddings and the taboo of wearing white it outdated

A number of contributors to the thread claimed wearing white as a wedding guest is only acceptable if approved by the bride in advance.

One person said: ‘I mean it is super commonly known that wearing white to a wedding when you aren’t the bride is a big no no so unless this is literally the only dress this lady has in existence and was too cheap to buy a new fairly cheap dress that was in any colour but white, then yeah she deserves to be shamed. Unless she ran it by the bride first ofc and then obviously it’s ok.’

Another wrote: ‘Ok so. I’ve worn white to a wedding but it’s because I was encourage and a lot of other people did too. And I think it depends on the bride and you should ask them. I got the ok.’

A number of contributors to the thread said the rules of what guests should wear is entirely dependent on the individual bride
