Demi Mauro, 28, was found with $20,000 in cash, cocaine, cannabis, meth, tasers and a gel blaster in her Wollongong home on May 20, police allege.

The South East Region Enforcement Squad were conducting patrols in the inner-city suburb of Mangerton when a foot pursuit of a man lead officers to her Johansen Crescent apartment.

Police heard movement inside and knocked at the door, which Mauro allegedly answered, Illawarra Star reported.

Officers questioned Mauro on whether she had any weapons inside the one-bedroom unit as she was already subject to a Firearms Prohibition Order.

Court documents state the young woman admitted to having a replica firearm that she had found a week before.

After searching the home, police allegedly seized the cash, drugs and weapons along with personal identification cards in different names.

Police allege more than $20,000 was found in a safe inside Mauro’s bedroom with 56 grams of meth.

She was arrested at the scene and immediately taken to Wollongong Police Station where court documents state she confessed to owning some of the items.

The 28-year-old was charged with 14 offences, including supply prohibited drug, possess or use a prohibited weapon without permit and deal with the proceeds of crime.

However, when she appeared in Wollongong Local Court on Monday she emotionally denied that any of the items were hers, repeatedly saying ‘it’s not mine’.

Mauro pleaded not guilty to all 14 offences but was refused bail.

Her defence lawyer claimed the items belonged to the man police had chased back to the unit, who had been staying with the young woman at the time.

The lawyer said that Mauro had believed the replica firearm was ‘just a toy’ but the prosecution argued that she was the sole occupant of the unit as the man was not on the lease.

She also told the court her client had been suffering from mental health issues such as bipolar and borderline personality disorder.

Mauro was refused bail by Magistrate Jillian Kiely.

The 28-year-old is currently on remand at Silverwater Jail and will face court in July.
