A Sydney woman has been found allegedly self-administering the drug ice while stopped in a U-turn bay on a busy highway.

The woman, from Darlinghurst in Sydney, was approached on Monday by Highway Patrol officers after they noticed her black Alfa Romeo in the middle of the Hume Highway near Goulburn.

The 32-year-old was found administering a substance, believed to be ice, when officers checked on the vehicle.

After conducting a search, police also allegedly found a quantity of prohibited drugs and a large amount of cash.

The woman was charged with supply prohibited drug, possess equipment and administer after being taken to Goulburn Police Station.

Police are reminding drivers to take care on the roads following a shocking long weekend in NSW that saw four fatalities and 238 major crashes.

Officers also issued 5,227 speed infringements over the three days.
