Woman chokes to death at a Beefeater pub in front of shocked lunchtime diners 

A woman has collapsed and choked to death at a pub in Lincolnshire, emergency services have said.

Paramedics and an air ambulance were called to The Anchor pub – part of the Beefeater chain – near Scunthorpe yesterday lunchtime.

But they could not save the woman, who began choking as diners sat having their lunch in the restaurant, and she was later pronounced dead.

It is unclear whether the woman was a guest at the adjoining Premier Inn hotel or was just at the restaurant for lunch.

The pub was closed this morning, with a notice on the door apologising to customers for any inconvenience.

A spokeswoman for Whitbread said: ‘Our thoughts are with the guest’s friends and family at this very sad time.’
