Woman drops five stone after starving herself when she developed a phobia of being SICK

A beautician who drastically dropped five stone after developing a phobia of vomiting has finally been cured.

Emma Brownjohn, 21, from Waltham Abbey, Essex, was so terrified of being sick that she starved herself by rationing her food.

After being diagnosed with emetophobia – a phobia of vomiting – during her teenage years, her weight plummeted from 13 stone to 8 stone.

Emma tried counselling to combat her anxiety but it wasn’t until meeting up with The Hypnotist Man Robert Hisee that her phobia was finally cured.

Emma, who runs her own beauty business, said: ‘My phobia of being sick got so bad at the end of my teenage years that I was barely eating.

‘I weighed 13 stone and had dropped down to eight after becoming terrified of being sick.

‘I completely lost my appetite and would worry about whether others around me would be sick as well.

‘I lost the five stone over a period of years as my weight was constantly going up and down.

‘No therapy or counselling worked until I met Robert in February after seeing his work online.

What is emetophobia?

Emetophobia is the phobia of vomit.

People with the phobia fear being sick, especially in public, so often practice avoidance behaviours.

For example, some sufferers will not leave home when there is a tummy bug going around and will avoid friends or family who are ill.

Others will observe a strict diet that is free from anything that might cause a stomach upset.

It is a common anxiety disorder that is most common in women.

Up to three per cent of men and seven per cent of women are thought to have emetophobia.

Treatment options include counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy and medication.

‘I had one session with him whereby he put me into a trance and spoke about my phobia.’

Her phobia got so bad that she wasn’t able to travel abroad with her boyfriend Sam, 25, and refused to eat at restaurants and food that other people cooked for her.

Since meeting Robert she has been able to follow a healthy diet, and recently returned from a trip to Disneyland Paris with Sam.

Emma continued: ‘I was worried about meeting Robert but after just three hours I felt as though a weight had been lifted.

‘I am so grateful to him and ever since meeting him I have regained my whole life.’

Emma now leads a healthy diet and no longer starves herself intermittently to avoid being sick.

She added: ‘I’m finally able to enjoy normal sized portions without worrying about whether I’ll be sick

‘My phobia had prevented me from holding down a full time job, eating at restaurants and living off a diet of vegetables in fear anything else would make me ill.’

The Hypnotist Man, Robert Hisee, said: ‘When I worked with Emma it was so sad to see and hear the affects of her emetophobia.

‘Emma had dropped stones in weight due to this condition and Emma was so scared of being sick that she would not eat food that other people cooked for her or in restaurants.

‘Using my unconscious mind therapy techniques I made her see and feel the cause of her problem as minor and achieving this I asked Emma to try to feel sick, the look of shock on her face was priceless when she realised she couldn’t find it anymore.

‘We spent the next hour with me teaching her visualisation techniques and only several weeks later I get a message on Facebook with a picture of Emma and her boyfriend in Paris stating she’d had the trip of a lifetime.

‘This is why I love what I do, I get so much pleasure in seeing people gain a happy mind and a happier life.’
