A young woman has shared an image of her late grandfather sitting outside his house which she found on Google maps several years after his death.

The footage was posted online by social media user Yajaira earlier this month.

In the video, Yajaira navigates through the streets of Labor de Guadalupe in Durango, Mexico.

She turns down several dusty lanes before zooming in on a male figure which she believes is her grandfather.

He is sat in a chair by an open doorway looking out across the road wearing a white stetson hat.

The video ends shortly after.

Yajaira, from North Carolina, America, originally uploaded the video alongside the caption: ‘My grandpa passed away a few years ago. We didn’t get to say goodbye to him.

‘Yesterday we found out google maps finally drove through his farm and as we were curious going through it, where the road ends, there is my grandpa, just sitting there.’

The clip has since been viewed more than four million times on Twitter and prompted other social media users to post videos and screenshots of their deceased loved ones who had been recorded by Google Maps prior to their deaths.

One, @Buenrostohhh, said: ‘My great grandfather passed away last month, exactly one year after our great nan left us.

‘To see him [on Google] walking towards our old house brings back so many childhood memories.’

Another, @tilin98, also shared a picture and wrote: ‘Same thing with my grandfather, we can see him just relaxing outside our house in Mexico.

‘Every time I miss him I always go back to find it.’

A third, @HoangryAF, added ‘same as my buddy Lucky, rest in peace’ next to a picture of his deceased dog.
