The woman who was found dead in the boot of a car in a Brisbane backyard was heavily pregnant and just weeks away from giving birth.

Police were called to a home on McGill Street in Raceview at 5.20pm on Tuesday where they found the 31-year-old Kardell Lomas’s body.

Ms Lomas’s de facto partner, Traven Fisher, 36, was arrested late last night from the same address and is assisting police with their inquiries.

Mr Fisher’s older brother said his brother and Ms Lomas were preparing for the birth of their baby.

‘I’m shocked… he (Traven) showed me a photo and said it was 21 days till he was born. He was not violent, he was argumentative, yes,’ Alfred Sullivan told the Courier Mail.

Police taped up the home (pictured) where the 31-year-old Kardell Lomas’s body was found inside the boot of a parked car

Acting Detective Inspector Heath McQueen said her body was found in the boot of a Holden Commodore parked on the property.

Insp McQueen described the grisly discovery as ‘traumatic’ for police when they pulled her body out of the car.

‘Both persons are known to police…’An autopsy is being conducted today,’ he said.

Police were called to the home to perform a welfare check on Tuesday, but nobody was present.

They searched the property, which is when they stumbled across the body.

‘A 31-year-old woman is deceased as the result of someone’s action and that person or persons needs to be held accountable,’ Insp McQueen said.

Mr Fisher arrived at the scene and handed himself over to police.

Neighbour Margaret Cobbin said police often attended the property.

‘She was pretty nice she was, she was pretty talkative and all that,’ she said.

The people who lived in the home had been there in excess of 20 years, Ms Cobbin said.

Police set up a crime scene and are investigating the surrounding areas.

Anybody with information regarding the incident is urged to contact Policelink on 131 444 or provide information using the online form 24hrs per day.

More to come.
