Woman in her 30s dies suspiciously in £125-a-night room at Ramada hotel in north London

  • Woman in her 30s was found unresponsive by staff at Ramada hotel in Finchley 
  • A substance, later found to be heroin, was seen at scene causing an evacuation
  • Police are treating death as suspicious but are yet to formally identify woman 

A woman in her 30s has died in ‘suspicious circumstances’ in a north London hotel, leading police to laucnh an investigation.

The woman, who is yet to be formally identified, was found unresponsive by staff at the £125-a-night Ramada hotel in Finchley.

Six people were assessed at the scene after emergency services were called at around 2.44pm causing eight police cars, six fire engines and eight ambulances to rush to the hotel.

Guest and staff were evacuated from the 3-star establishment after a suspicious substance was found at the scene, which is now understood to be heroin.

A statement from the Metropolitan Police said: ‘A woman in her 30s was found unresponsive by staff in the building.

‘London Ambulance Service attended and the female was pronounced dead at the scene.

‘Efforts are ongoing to identify the woman and inform next of kin.

‘Her death is currently being treated as suspicious.

‘Officers from North West Command Unit remain on scene. Enquiries continue.’   

A spokesperson for the London Ambulance Service added: ‘We sent a number of resources to the scene.

‘Sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. We assessed an additional six people but they were not taken to hospital.’

A London Fire Brigade spokesperson confirmed they had been called to investigate about 3.45pm.  

Fire brigades also confirm they were one the scene, saying: ‘We have got two fire engines and a fire rescue at the scene.

Wyndham Hotels and Resorts, who owns the Ramada, have been contacted for comment.
