Woman is hailed an ‘icon’ for editing the captions of Instagram pictures with bad ex-boyfriends

Breaking up with a significant other can be hard, and not just for the loss of love — it also often means cleansing social media of old photos that might be otherwise cute and flattering, save for the presence unwelcome ex.

But one young woman named Rosie from Singapore decided she wasn’t about to give up her cute photos, and found a creative solution for keeping old boyfriends in her feed.

Rosie merely updated each of the pictures with more honest, biting captions — and her tweet about the funny move has now gone viral.

Rosie hadn’t actually deleted any photos of herself with ex-boyfriends, but instead archived them, which hid them from her timeline.

Recently, though, she decided to add them back.

She wrote on Twitter: ‘Decided to unarchive all the pictures I had with shitty guys because I look cute but updated the captions to be more accurate.’

She included three screengrabs from Instagram showing her with guys she is no longer dating.

In the first, taken at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, she’s being held up by a former flame.

‘Not a fan of Valentine’s Day but a huge fan of my Valentine,’ reads the original caption.

But underneath, she added an edit: ‘He broke up with me the next day!’

Another photo shows her kissing an ex’s cheek with the caption: ‘Like if you think I can do better. Edit: He broke up with me through Facebook messenger so yes, I can do better.’

Finally, on a photo taken in front of the Boston skyline, she originally wrote: ‘Took a 7 hour bus to Boston to take this picture.’

The edit read: ‘Was not worth the trip.’

Since Rosie shared the images, her tweet has been liked over 57,000 times, with commenters calling her a ‘queen.’

‘You’re an icon,’ wrote one, while another chimed in: ‘This is a damn smart thing to do.’

Several have applauded her for being so candid on social media, pointing out that most people only show off their most polished selves, presenting a happy, flawless front — when often, their real lives are hardly so spectacular.

She has also inspired some other women to do the same: A woman named Cass posted her own versions with ‘real, accurate captions.’

Rosie later updated her admirers, noting that she didn’t edit every picture with a guy in it.

‘If our pic has no edit though it means you were a decent person and I truly truly wish you the best, thank you for being good to me when we were together,’ she said.

Later, she added: ‘I just wanted to clarify this tweet isn’t about shaming any of the men pictured. This post is about me, how I moved on by acknowledging my experiences and pain, and knowing that I deserve better. & also that I look good in these pics.
