Evidence at the scene, including paw prints, suggests she was attacked by the dogs at an industrial yard near the store before dying in the Costco parking lot.

And footage obtained by KGET appears to at least two of the dogs involved at around 10:30 p.m. and later walking back from the parking lot at 3 a.m.

Sgt. Nathan McCauley told The Daily News both the cause of death and the woman’s identity are still being looked into.

He told The LA Times: ‘It’s a very unusual occurrence, and without any witnesses or surveillance video, it’s hard to know exactly what caused this.’

Sgt. Sean Morphis said: ‘Officers are still looking for any evidence, witnesses and the investigation is ongoing.’

A pitbull and a large mixed breed were found with their owner nearby.

A third dog – a stray pit bull terrier – was also taken into animal control custody to be euthanized.

McCauley said the dogs’ owner could ‘assume some civil liability’.

Local business owner Jaime Camorlinga told ABC23: ‘I’ve seen those two particular dogs walk around once in a blue moon. I never thought about them as dangerous or anything.’
