Woman jailed over hit-and-run which killed two young boys out of prison after just a few weeks

A woman who was jailed after a hit and run which killed two young boys and led their devastated father to hang himself has been spotted out of prison- after just a few weeks.

Gwendoline Harrison, was jailed for six months after assaulting a passerby who was trying to stop Robert Brown from fleeing the scene of a crash.

Harrison was a passenger in Brown’s car when he hit brothers Corey, two, and Casper Platt-May, six, as they crossed the road with their mum Louise, in Coventry, earlier this year.

The boys’ were killed and just a few weeks later their dad Reece Platt-May, was found dead at a Greek hotel.

Shocked locals, have now spotted Harrison, walking the streets with a can of lager in her hand, a mere 12 weeks after she was jailed, as reported by The Sun.

One onlooker said: ‘She didn’t appear to have a care in the world.

‘I heard her laughing as she walked by some bushes while swigging from her beer. Every time I see her she is smiling with a fag and a lager.

‘Her day seems to just centre around getting booze and drinking it before she gets back to her hostel.

‘At the end of every can, she just tosses it to the ground, with no respect at all. It is shameful.’

Reece’s mum Carolyn Platt was shocked to learn about Harrison’s release

Speaking from her home in Coventry she said: ‘She’s out in no time at all – but that’s the justice system for you.

‘But I can’t waste a minute of my time thinking about her. She’s not worth it.

‘I’ve only got enough space in my head and my heart for my son and my grandsons.

The two boys were with their mother  in MacDonald Road, Coventry, at around 2pm when a Ford Focus, driven by Brown, ploughed into them at more than 60mph in a 30mph zone.

Witnesses said Brown had been ‘driving like a madman’ with his car rocking on its wheels.

Brown tried to leave the scene with his passenger Gwendoline Harrison, 42, but not before members of the public put him in a headlock, delaying him long enough for police to track the pair to their hiding place in a nearby back garden.

His passenger, Harrison, was also jailed for six months for assaulting a witness who tried to stop Brown as the pair tried to flee the scene.

Speaking after sentencing, the family’s lawyer Rebecca Hearsey, read a statement from the boys’ 28-year-old mother in which she spoke of her family.

Ms Platt-May’s statement said: ‘They will never hold my hand or hug me so tight I can’t breathe. They will never know the opportunities life had in store for them, the journey life should have been for them, the people they would become.

‘Endless opportunities, experiences, relationships, robbed from them. I cannot process the scale of their loss or digest the impact their being taken so cruelly has had on myself, my husband and their brothers.

‘My family is broken, my heart is broken and time will never heal this.’

She also paid tribute to her sons after the collision, describing them as ‘amazing’ and ‘cheeky’ boys who will ‘be deeply missed’.

She added: ‘To watch your children die in front of you is something no parent should have to experience.

‘Our family should have had so many years ahead of us to create a lifetime of memories but these have all been snatched away because of Robert Brown.

‘We don’t blame the judge for the sentence he imposed, but what today has highlighted is that those who rip families apart seem to be the ones who get off more lightly.

‘Robert Brown showed a total disregard for the law when he got behind the wheel that day.

‘Because of him, we are living a life sentence knowing we will never see our boys grow up, while he will be out of prison in just a few years and will be free to continue his life.

‘We will never come to terms with how Corey and Casper were taken far too soon.

Brown, 53-year-old, was jailed for nine years after admitting two counts of causing death by dangerous driving after the hit-and-run collision.

Brown, of Wyken, Warwickshire, had 30 previous convictions for driving offences.

He was only released from a prison a week before the crash, after being jailed for having an offensive weapon.
