Woman is killed instantly after being hit by a garbage truck in Sydney’s west

  • Woman struck by a garbage truck in Chester Hill, in Sydney’s west on Tuesday
  • Incident was just after 8.30am, with the woman tragically dying at the scene
  • Motorists have been advised to avoid the area, which is now a crime scene
  • The driver, 32, has since been arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station

A woman was killed instantly after she was hit by a garbage truck on Tuesday morning.

Emergency services crews were called to Gurney Road in Chester Hill, in Sydney’s west, following reports a pedestrian had been struck by the truck shortly after 8.30am.

Paramedics attempted to revive the woman but she died at the scene, NSW Police stated.

She is yet to be formally identified.

Police have since set up a crime scene and closed Gurney Rd between Miller Rd and Campbell Hill Rd.

The scene will be examined by investigators with from the Crash Investigation Unit. 

Motorists are advised to avoid the area if possible.

The garbage truck driver, 32, was taken to Bankstown Hospital for mandatory blood and alcohol tests. 

He has since been arrested and taken to Bankstown Police Station.

A report will be prepared for the coroner. 

Investigations into the circumstances surrounding the crash are continuing, with anyone with dashcam footage or who witnessed the accident urged to contact Bankstown Local Area Command or Crimestoppers on 1800 333 000.
