A couple have offered their unit for a holiday getaway to give drought-stricken farmers a break from their worries.

Jen and husband Tim Peut have invited struggling farmers to stay in their Sunshine Coast rental property for free.

Mrs Peut grew up in regional New South Wales and has experienced the ramifications of drought first-hand, the Sunshine Coast Daily reported.

While Mrs Peut recognises that a getaway-holiday to Mooloolaba won’t solve their problems, she believes a temporary distraction is a good thing.

‘The current lease on the property is coming to an end and it will be vacant until the new tenants move in, so we couldn’t let this wonderful opportunity for a farmer pass up,’ Mrs Peut said.

The furnished family unit is pet-friendly and designed for relaxation.

Mrs Peut said she is fortunate to be in a good financial state and didn’t want to waste the opportunity to help someone in need.

‘I know some of these farmers haven’t had a break in five years. You hear about the suicide rate and it’s heart-breaking,’ Mrs Peut said.

‘The community is really getting together. We are feeling their pain.’

Australia is currently experiencing one of the worst droughts of the past century. The entirety of New South Wales and 57 per cent of Queensland are currently in drought.

While Mrs Peut knows it wont fix the problems of the suffering farmers, she hopes it will distract someone who is struggling
