A woman has offered no explanation for driving erratically with two children asleep in the boot of her car.

The woman, from the Northern Territory, was pulled over by police at 1:55am on Larrapinta Dr in Alice Springs.

Her car was deemed unroadworthy with a smashed windscreen, an unsecure battery and excessive oil leaks, NT News reported.

Police also found two children, aged six and 10 asleep in the boot of the car.

In addition to the two children, the woman had two adult passengers in the car who were unrestrained.

She also had incorrect number plates on the car she was driving. 

NT Police Southern Watch Commander Darrell Kerr said the woman ‘was actually disqualified from driving until 2022.’

He said she offered no explanation for any of the issues with the car or her driving.

She is expected to face court on Friday.
