A woman has revealed how she ended up in the emergency ward after a disastrous first date – and the surprising reason she hasn’t been on once since.

The young woman had been ‘single for a while’ when a handsome ‘friend of a friend’, named Pete, asked her on a date

Speaking to Nine Honey she revealed she was taken by the man’s good looks and hilarious laugh so despite warnings he was ‘a little odd’ she accepted.

‘The fact my friends knew Pete was a good thing. I mean, they wouldn’t encourage me to go out on a date with a weirdo, right?,’ she said.

And it turned out to be the strangest date of her life featuring an assault, trip to hospital and run-in with the man’s ex.

It was also her last first-date ever, as the couple have been married for five years despite their rocky beginning.

The date started well.

‘We met at a bar for drinks first and got on very well. I liked him very much and as he was chatting to me, I was already fantasising about getting into bed with him. Like I said, he was very attractive.’

Drinks turned into dinner and then Pete suggested the pair go on a stroll by the river.

This is when the date took a strange turn.

The woman was starting to feel ‘warm and fuzzy’ about Pete when she noticed a man leaning against a tree up ahead.

‘I didn’t really think much about it, but as we approached, he bounded up to us and punched Pete in the face with something and then ran away,’ she said.

The ‘something’ was a rock and Pete’s once handsome face ‘looked dreadful’ and was covered in blood.

The woman took him to hospital where they were approached by a woman, Pete’s ex-girlfriend, who came to say hello and see if he was okay.

‘I’d say Pete definitely caught my heart – even though it was not the most ideal first date of all time,’ she said.

But according to popular dating-disaster story site, Bad Dates of Melbourne, a bad first date is likely to guarantee a happy-ever-after.

Many of the dates on the site reveal unfortunate bouts of gastro, or accidents ‘in the bed’ which ultimately lead to happy-ever-after.

‘My now-husband sat with me all night after I had an accident in his bed, and spent the whole night on the loo,’ one woman said.

While another said she woke up and realised she had her period but her now-husband shrugged the encounter off and simply put his sheets in the wash.

Another woman revealed how she ‘panic ghosted’ one man when anxiety got the best of her and she became afraid he was too good for her.

The man texted on a friend’s phone, asking for an explanation, and they have been together ever since. While others revealed their own hospital-worthy encounters.

‘We get down to business and midway through he stops suddenly – and tells me he’s dislocated his shoulder! Naturally I freak out. I immediately ask him if he needs to go to the ER or see a doctor or if he needs an ice pack or something,’ one woman said in a story on the page.

‘Nope! Old mate pops it back into place, rests for a bit and then keeps going like the absolute trooper,’ she said.

The near-disaster didn’t stop the couple from heading on more dates.
