A woman has shared her simple two-ingredient recipe for homemade hand sanitiser as supermarkets across Australia are stripped bare of the product.

Australian mother Tammy Wright revealed that the highly sought-after product can be made by combining rubbing alcohol and aloe vera gel.

‘If you can’t find hand sanitiser, here’s a recipe to make your own,’ Ms Wright shared online.

‘Combine in a bowl: two thirds of a cup of rubbing alcohol (99% isopropyl alcohol) and one third of a cup of aloe vera gel. Stir. Decant into a clean soap or pump bottle.

‘Give it a good shakeup every now and then.’

Ms Wright said the ingredients could easily be bought at a chemist or supermarket.

‘Suzanne Barley You can add a few drops of tea tree oil too to make it smell nicer… plus tea tree oil has its own antibacterial properties,’ another suggested.

As the disease continues to spread, shoppers have started panic buying supplies including hand sanitiser, tissues and toilet paper.

Aisles have been stripped bare of the products as shoppers continue to buy in bulk.

Woolworths was forced to limit purchases of hand sanitiser to two packs per customer.

At the end of last month pharmacies like Priceline were running low on stock with some stores running out of sanitiser in Sydney.

There was a huge demand for the product after health authorities indicated washing your hands was the best way to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
