Woman set up fur coat brand Tzarina by Ollia in her room

A former Surrey boarding school girl who set up her own fur coat label in her bedroom sold out of her designs within a week, and now counts stars such as Kylie Jenner among her fans.

Ollia Tzarina, 29, who is the daughter of a Greek father and Russian mother and bases herself between London and Milan as she pursues her career as a fashion designer, is currently dating an unnamed British billionaire.

Her designs, priced at up to £5,500 for a fur coat, are loved by the Kardashians, and have been seen on J Lo, Ariana Grande and Sofia Richie to name a new.

But the entrepreneur admits that her brand was set up pretty much by chance.

‘I literally set the brand up by accident,’ she told Femail. ‘I couldn’t find a fur coat of a certain color and really needed one, so I had it made. I took some photos for my Instagram and everybody went crazy for it.

‘So I set up a brand in my bedroom, had a few jackets made, and they were sold out within a week.’

‘I was really trying to find myself at that time. I was going to go into acting, and I was cast to play Salma Hayek’s daughter in a French film. Then she dropped out so I was back at square one,’ she told Femail. ‘But I always knew I’d be in fashion.’

Ollia completed internships at Vogue and Tatler after studying at the London College of Fashion and insists that ‘no other brand had this much of the A-list celebrity endorsement within just one year of launching’.

She said: ‘When I really sat down to think about the concept, I wanted to create a niche. There was no brand like this, nobody dyed the fur in extraordinary colors, such as pastel blue, violet and pink.

‘I wanted the jackets to be more of an accessory rather then [a] necessity. I wanted to give a beautiful high end feel and quality, but have an affordable price tag.

‘Most high end fur brands such as Fendi or J Mendel, have prices ranging from £16K to £60K.

‘With mine, people buy four or five pieces straight away in different colours and the average price tag is £2,000.

Another unique point is that my faux fur technology is one of a kind. I have an entire factory division dedicated to that.

‘The feel of the fake fur is so realistic, even the fashion editors have a hard time to see straight away that the fur is fake and not animal. It literally feels shockingly authentic. Nobody in the industry has this technology.’

For her real fur products, Ollia uses pelt such as fox, but insists she’s not suffered a hugely negative reaction.

‘I actually don’t get as much backlash from the Peta activists as I thought I would,’ she said.

‘People who know the brand realise that most of the high end brands such as Chanel, Balmain, and Tom Ford all use leather and fur.

‘Some people are vegetarians, and some people are against fur trade, I understand,’ she said.

‘But there is a massive, massive segment of others who eat meat, who wear fur and leather shoes and buy designer leather bags.

People forget, that those Chanel or Dior or LV bags they buy are leather. Shoes they wear are leather. So how is the fur any different?

‘No matter how much people protest, it wont stop the fashion industry using fur and leather. Its just how it works. Take it or leave it, it’s the reality.’

Now Ollia is hoping that average girls – with deep pockets – will be tempted to buy her furs.

‘Even though girls like Kendall and Kylie wear it, the brand is so approachable to the normal girl. I am a normal girl.

‘These jackets are so versatile, they don’t scream high maintenance and they are very easy to wear.

‘The wide range of the colour palette – we use about 50 shades – means any girl whether she is a starlet or a student can choose one they will adore.’
