Woman shot dead in the Melbourne suburb of North Sunshine

  • Woman found with fatal gunshot wounds outside a Melbourne hospital
  • A man has been arrested over her death and police say the pair knew each other
  • Detectives believe her death is linked to a crime spree involving a car pile-up

Police believe a crime spree involving an alleged car jacking and three-car pile-up is linked to the shooting death of a woman found dumped outside a Melbourne hospital.

The woman was found with fatal gunshot wounds at 9pm on Thursday night outside Sunshine Hospital, in the city’s troubled north-west.

A man has been arrested over the woman’s death and is assisting police with their enquiries as homicide squad detectives try to piece together the chaos.

Police have established a crime scene at a nearby home where it’s understood the woman was shot.

A pool of blood could be seen near the home’s front door on Friday morning as forensics investigators and detectives cordoned off the area.

Her death is being treated as suspicious and police believe the pair knew each other.

Police say it may be related to a series of car crashes in Sunshine North and the surrounding area.

Roughly one kilometre away from the hospital where the woman was found two cars lay smashed – one on its roof – at the intersection of Furlong Road and Romsey Ave.

Several hundred metres up the road, closer to the Sunshine hospital, a third car was found smashed up.

Crime scenes have been established at both crash sites, the hospital and the home.

The suburb Sunshine is considered to be the crime capital of Melbourne and is the subject of a crime drama series exploring the region’s diverse cultural make-up.
