A woman has revealed that she’s taken a drastic vow to not spend money on American companies following Donald Trump’s win.
Elysia Berman, a content creator based in New York City, posted a video to TikTok detailing her plan to stop contributing to the country’s economy after it was revealed that Trump would be the 47th President of the United States.
The 34-year-old explained that she was going to try to only buy products from brands that are based outside of America for the next four years.
‘So Trump is President now and if there’s one thing this election has taught me it’s that I will be doing nothing to stimulate his economy,’ she stated in the video, which has been viewed more than 385,000 times.
‘I’ve been on a no-buy for the better part of a year and I need you to understand that I will be doing this for another four f**king years.

‘I will make a point to stimulate every single economy besides Trump’s. As long as that man is President, I will not be shopping on US soil.
‘I will not be buying from American companies, I will literally only shop when I’m abroad.’
Elysia explained that she was currently on vacation in Paris, France, and that she planned to buy tons of stuff while she was there.
She added that she was even considering moving there permanently following the news that Trump had won the election.
If she did relocate, the influencer would join a slew of people, including some famous faces like America Ferrera, Minnie Driver, and Johnny Depp, who have fled the States recently.
‘If you told 14-year-old me that in 20 years she’d have to seriously consider emigrating out of the United States, she would have called you crazy. But here we are,’ she concluded.
Elysia’s revelation quickly went viral, and viewers rushed to the comment section to share their thoughts.
Many people praised her plan and admitted that they too wanted to do something similar.

‘I am with you. No desire to contribute to his economy,’ one person wrote.
‘I am definitely doing a low buy. Only necessities and used items. I will support local restaurants but not traveling in the US.’
‘Canada is only two hours from me… I like a road trip for groceries and fun stuff,’ someone else shared.
‘Had the same thought today. The ONLY thing I’ll be buying is the necessities,’ another user added.
‘You just had the idea I needed to hear today, I find comfort that I can control this, thank you,’ a fourth comment read.
‘I think I’m going to also limit what new things I buy next year. Sticking to second hand/eBay. Using what I have,’ a fifth said.
In a follow-up video, Elysia explained that groceries weren’t ‘included’ in her decision because it’s too hard to get them from overseas.
But she said she tries to always purchase her food from ‘local farmer’s markets’ rather than ‘big grocery chains’ – and encouraged others to do the same.
‘Another thing is to unfortunately let go of your Amazon Prime membership,’ she recommended.

‘We’re far too accustomed to getting things in two days or less… it’s an environmental nightmare.
‘Things like Amazon Prime, Instacart, all of those things gotta go.’
Elysia said it’s important to ‘support small businesses,’ especially ones owned by women and people of color.
‘Money has power, and we, as citizens have the power to control the flow of money,’ she pointed out.
‘If we collectively all take these same steps, we can actually have a really solid impact.’
She said that she doesn’t look at her pledge as a ‘boycott,’ adding, ‘It’s ensuring that the funds that you [earn], your hard earned money, goes back towards your community in a way that directly and positively impacts it.’
