Woman transforms an old caravan into an incredible space after spending just $100 on Kmart products

A stay-at-home mother-of-two has transformed a dated caravan from 1987 into a sophisticated living space after spending just $140 on Kmart products.

Shannon Lott, 32, picked up her $4,800 mobile home last weekend and with the help of her 14-year-old son spent three days stripping down and renovating the interior.

The Melbourne mother said she transformed the caravan by ‘Kmart-ifying’ it, and spent just $35 buying the 11 vinyl wrap rolls needed to give the home a final flourish.

‘My son and I started the work on Tuesday and spent three full days on it. We had no experience in this kind of thing and we kind of just winged it,’ she told FEMAIL.

‘He mainly did all the demolition and I came in after and did all the cosmetic work.’

Shannon now plans on travelling around Australia with her teenage son Teba and her daughter Isla, two, in her incredible re-imagined home on wheels.

She turned to another major Australian retailer to accentuate her look by using Bunnings spray paint on some of the caravan’s fixtures.

The mum used the spray on the kitchen tap as well as the handles on the new-look overhead cabinets in the caravan’s living room.

The handles were also bought from Bunnings, as were the $12 MDF boards which sit on an incline behind the couch.

Despite her extensive makeover, Shannon said her son actually made very little wholesale furniture changes to the caravan.

‘All he really did was get rid of the fixed bed, bedside tables and one other cabinet,’ she said.

In place of the previous fixtures, the 32-year-old bought an IKEA sofa bed for $110 on Facebook Marketplace and gave the space a touch of colour with a $49 Target tufted jute rug.
