A woman whose husband tragically died in a freak accident has gone viral on social media after using dark humour to cope with his passing.
Bonnie Caldwell, who lives in New Zealand, admitted that she was furious when her husband Matt failed to reply to her text messages while on a boys’ trip, but thought his lack of contact was likely due to a hangover.
Posting on TikTok, the 26-year-old, said that it wasn’t until she received a message from his brother urging her to come to his house that she learnt Matt had died in a freak accident.
She has gone viral after posting a video entitled: Me getting sh***y because my husband was on a boys trip and wasn’t replying to me.
The clip then cut to an image of his photo with a candle alongside it, with the caption: ‘He was dead’.
Bonnie has racked up over 3 million views on the clip captioned ‘I mean, he could have at least given me a heads up. #darkhumour’

In a follow-up story time, Bonnie said: ‘I know sometimes it’s helpful if other people share their stories. My husband Matt went to a city a couple of hours away from where we live to watch a rugby game with some mates.
‘I talked to him that night at like midnight on the phone, which was really nice that we had that conversation. Obviously didn’t know what was about to happen.
‘I woke up the next morning and I text him just to say, “Good morning, I love you. Hope you had a good time. Can’t wait to see you tonight”.
‘He didn’t reply, which I thought was a bit weird of him.’
Bonnie explained that her husband Matt (pictured) had gone on a boys’ trip when he unexpectedly died after falling over the edge of a bank
Bonnie assumed he was ‘just hungover and not replying’, but when a few hours passed with no repsonse, she thought it was ‘strange’.
‘They should probably be on their way home by now because I knew they were checking out at 10 and I could see that his friends were still in the city on Snap Chat,’ she recalled.
Bonnie explained that she thought Matt had gone missing like Doug in the film The Hangover but his friends didn’t contact her because they knew she would worry.
However, she soon realised that something was seriously wrong as time continued to pass without any contact.
Bonnie said: ‘A couple more hours went past and I got a text from Matt’s brother telling me to come over to the house right now and I flew out the door.
‘You kind of expect the worst. You don’t want to believe that they’ve died but your mind goes there straight away.
Bonnie (pictured) said she was unaware that Matt had died until hours after they last spoke on the phone
‘When I turned up there was the police there and they informed us that Matt had passed away, so what happened was where they were all staying there was sort of like a bank and he had walked down the bank to go to the toilet.
‘He didn’t realise that at the edge of the bank it just drops straight down and he misjudged it.
‘We don’t know if he tripped or if he just walked off the edge but he was looking at his phone. His phone was found face up still playing, so we think he just misjudged and went off the end and fell.
‘He died on impact. Really horrific, freak accident that none of us could’ve really prevented unfortunately. That was about eight months ago now. We’re all doing I guess as well as we could be, but Matt and I shared a really dark sense of humour.
‘It’s a really big coping mechanism for me, so I know he wouldn’t find my TikTok to harsh.’
A stream of commenters admitted Bonnie’s video had shocked them and offered their sympathy for her loss.

A third added: ‘Amazing humour. Sorry for your loss. Could we have a story time please?’
