Woman who couldn’t poop for over a MONTH reveals her struggles to her TikTok followers

A woman who suffered from bowel issues and couldn’t poop for over a month has revealed her struggles to her TikTok followers and admitted she’s suffered from mystery illness, which still hasn’t been diagnosed, and that has kept her in and out of the hospital for treatment.

Cherine Docherty, 39, from Scotland, began documenting her constipation struggles on TikTok after mysteriously developing bowel problems in February of 2022.

The 39-year-old is now living with a colostomy bag, which collects waste from the body through an opening made during surgery between the large intestine and abdominal wall, after she spent months in and out of the hospital seeking treatment for her mystery illness.

Cherine has shared her pooping problems – from looking like she’s ‘eight months pregnant’ to bursting her colostomy bag – with her over 244,000 followers.

She has been praised for her candid videos detailing her struggles and doctor visits that leave her just as confused as when she walked in.

She became viral in July when she posted a video captioned: ‘Day 34 of not doing a [poo emoji]’

In the video, which racked up over a million views, she showed users her stomach, which she said made her look ‘eight months pregnant’ and explained she has been struggling to defecate.

Since then the Scottish woman has been using the social media platform to share updates and take her followers along her pooping journey.

Cherine went to the hospital every four months to receive medication that helped her poop, but the relief was temporary as the medication stopped working.

The medical device that helped Cherine to finally poop: What is a colostomy bag?

  • A colostomy bag is a plastic bag that collects fecal matter from the digestive tract through an opening in the abdominal wall called the stoma.
  • Doctors attach the bag following a colostomy procedure, which is done when a person is suffering from bowel issues.
  • During a colostomy, a surgeon will take out a portion of a person’s large intestine through the stoma and the bag will collect stool as it passes through the gut.

After suffering from excruciating pain, Cherine went back to the hospital and begged doctors to do something as her throat began to close up and she was tired of being tube fed laxatives.

Doctors then preformed surgery to give the Scottish woman a colostomy bag.

The day after the surgery, Cherine was finally able to poop and celebrated by posting a video.

In the video, which racked up over 400,000 views, she detailed her relief despite enduring the ‘worst pain ever.’

In other videos, the Scottish woman shared she was beginning to fear for her health as she was having trouble breathing and also suffers from stage three chronic kidney disease and asthma, which she revealed she was concerned would get worse.

In an interview with Insider, Cherine revealed doctors wanted to perform a procedure called ileoanal anastomosis, which removes her large intestine and then reattaches the rest of her digestive system.

However, doctors chose to give her a colostomy bag instead because ileoanal anastomosis is a 12-hour operation with an extremely long wait list.

Cherine finally pooped a day later.

However, she revealed the bag wasn’t a complete fix.

In another video she went on to share her horror stories to her followers.

She shared that her colostomy bag burst and left her ‘covered in s***.’

She added: ‘It was an absolute nightmare.

‘I’ve had to set my alarm every single hour, every night since I’ve been discharged from hospital, just because I’m so scared of that happening again.’

Although the Scottish woman is still unsure of the cause behind her mysterious illness, she revealed she was thankful for the following her experience has given her.

Cherine used to work in childcare but left her job due to her health issues. And although she never used to be so open on the internet but when her health problems persisted she used it as an opportunity to become an ‘open book’ on TikTok.

She revealed that her brutally honest videos have garnered praise from strangers who help inspire her.

‘There’s a lot of big TikTokers that do get negativity, but for some reason, I don’t really,’ she told Insider.
