Woman who finds condom in partner’s jeans divides Mumsnet

Mumsnet users have urged a woman to break up with her boyfriend after she discovered a condom in his pocket – despite the couple not using them.

The woman, who has been with her partner six months, found the condom still in its packet in her partner’s jeans while she was doing the laundry and took to the parenting website for advice.

Writing on the forum, user bigapplerecords explained: ‘I’ve just been through the laundry basket to put a load of washing on and found an unopened condom in the pocket of my boyfriends jeans.

‘We don’t use condoms. Aibu (am I being unreasonable) to think there could be a perfectly innocent reason for it being there??’

A woman was shocked to find a condom tucked in the pocket of her boyfriend’s jeans when she was putting clothes in the wash

Yet to confront her boyfriend on the discovery, she decided to get a little insight from others before addressing the issue.

And while the woman was hoping for an innocent explanation many users were quick to accuse her partner of cheating – encouraging her to abandon the relationship.

One advised: ‘The only reason it would be there surely would be to use with you. But if you don’t use them…

‘I’d keep hold of it and confront him with it and see what he says its for. But I think I’d already know why it’s there.’

Another said: ‘If at the 6 month point I found a condom and I’m not sure of an honest answer if I question him I’d be waiting with his bags packed when he walked in and the condom on the table. He’d have to work damn hard to convince me.’

One user sarcastically wrote: ‘I suppose he could have been keeping it there to use as a water carrier in an emergency, however I think the obvious answer is usually the right one.’

While another tried to find a believable reason, saying: ‘Has he recently been on a night out? I’ve been handed one as a part of promo while walking through town, and it’s possible he might have just shoved it in his jeans pocket.’

Other users questioned the situation, saying that maybe he had been given it on a night out as a promotional token

Several users questioned the reason that she wasn’t using a condom with her partner, warning of the risks of STIs.

Other users suggested that she moved in too quickly with the partner in question, baffled as to why she was doing her partner’s laundry to begin with.

Clutching at straws, some encouraged her to check the expiry date, in the hope that the condom had been purchased before they had met.

Writing on the thread she said: ‘He’s home and in the shower. I showed him the condom, said I found it in his jeans pocket and asked him why he had it.

‘His answer was “I don’t know baby it’s not mine and I have no idea where it came from”  He’s lying, isn’t he?’

Almost all of the responses that followed confirmed the OP’s fears with most users agreeing he is lying.
