Woman who had luxury ‘wild affair’ with five-time Lotto winner millionaire charged with drug driving

A woman who sprung her multi-millionaire, five-time Lotto winner boyfriend from jail before their ‘crazy wild affair’ and luxury life together fall apart has allegedly now been caught drug driving.

Danielle Prebble, who lived the high life with Carlo Paul Massetti until their tumultuous affair ended with her lying on a freezing New Zealand road, has been charged with driving under the influence of cocaine, ice and cannabis.

Ms Prebble made news in 2019 when she ecstatically embraced Carlo Massetti outside a Sydney court after cleverly manoeuvring to have him walk free from prison.

The pair, who had embarked on a ‘wild’ romance in Queensland in 2016, continued to have an on-again, off-again relationship as two-time lottery winner Mr Massetti had a further triple winning streak, banking him prize money of $2.55million.

Mr Massetti had quit his job as a funeral home undertaker in Sydney’s Bondi after two big Lotto payouts in 2012.

He then shot to stardom, winning $2.5million from two separate Lotto draws within one week in May 2018, and just 12 days later won another $48,000 in a Powerball draw.

All of his winning tickets were bought at the same shop in Bondi.

Over the next few years, Massetti spent big on luxury cars, Tag Heuer watches, Tiffany & Co. jewellery and Louis Vuitton handbags for Ms Prebble, as well as $50,000 on first-class tickets for an around-the-world trip.

But he would endure run-ins with police, ruined friendships and a turbulent love life with Ms Prebble, leaving Australia saying their romance had ‘turned toxic’.

Ms Prebble chased Mr Massetti to New Zealand to rekindle their ‘crazy love’ in 2021, saying ‘I know we have this s****y s****y history, but I love him a million per cent’.

But her passion for the millionaire would end in tears, and after a night of bourbon and coke and playing drinking games, Ms Prebble ended up lying on a road in Oamaru, on New Zealand’s South Island, and Mr Massetti was again charged with assault.

A New Zealand court dropped the charges against Mr Massetti, who said the affair was finally over with Ms Prebble, who eventually returned to Sydney.

NSW Police allege Ms Prebble has twice driven on Sydney roads in daylight hours this year while under the influence of drugs.

Now aged 33, Ms Prebble allegedly drove her VW Golf hatchback on Ebley Street, Bondi Junction, between 8am and 9am on January 27 this year with cocaine and methamphetamine in her blood.

Police allege she drove the same vehicle, which has Queensland registration plates, on Elizabeth Street, Waterloo, on the afternoon of April 4 with methamphetamine and cannabis in her system.

She is due to appear later this month at the same court where she triumphantly embraced Mr Massetti after he was released from prison in 2019 on charges he had assaulted her.

Mr Massetti had spent three months behind bars for breaching an Apprehended Violence Order against Ms Prebble, and was facing further possible punishment for a a string of charges against her.

But when court officers were unable to find Ms Prebble, Mr Massetti walked free because she had failed to show up as a key witness in court, forcing the police prosecutor to drop all seven domestic violence charges.

It then emerged she had been standing outside Waverley Local Court throughout the entire hearing and passionately embraced Mr Massetti as he walked out as a mostly free man.

He was sentenced to an 18-month community corrections order on one count of contravening a domestic AVO, relating to an incident where he took Ms Prebble’s phone off her and threw it into a toilet during a night out drinking in 2018.

Ms Prebble admitted her failure to enter the court complex ‘was a tactic for Carlo to be let free. The charges against him were pretty harsh.’

‘I know that Carlo was a good man. He gives me love,’ she added.

But the sorry tale of their romance, and how Mr Massetti’s lottery wins soured his life later came out.

When Mr Massetti scooped $2.5million in 2018, he donated $50,000 to St Vincent Hospital’s heart and lung unit, after his father and two grandparents suffered multiple heart attacks.

The retired millionaire wanted the donation to be kept anonymous, but when it made headlines, his new-found wealth poisoned relationships with some of his friends.

‘Every man and his dog wanted money from me. I didn’t shout my friends a drink or give them one single cent, that was my choice,’ he said in 2021.

‘They were obviously annoyed and disappointed. But I said, “If you don’t respect that, don’t be my friend and lose my number.”‘

Five years before his winning streak in 2018, twice-divorced Mr Massetti met Ms Prebble while they were both in unhappy marriages.

‘Most people would be jumping up and down with excitement [after winning so much money] but for the amount of stress I had been under with Danni and my marriage break-up, I felt flat,’ Mr Massetti said.

On three separate occasions in the same year, police alleged Mr Massetti assaulted Ms Prebble seven times, taking him into custody on the third alleged occasion, culminating in his release after Ms Prebble’s no-show.

The happy couple shared a kiss outside court and walked down the street holding hands after Mr Massetti said they would start a family together.

‘I think we are going to get on with our lives the best we can and put all this behind us,’ he said outside court.

But it was not to be.

In September 2020, Mr Massetti was fined for public urination and drink driving and he returned to New Zealand to live on a farm near Oamaru.

In May 2021, Danielle Prebble flew to New Zealand to meet Mr Massetti in the hope of reconciling with him, and a spent a relaxing week ‘like an old married couple’ together.

But after a night out drinking, the pair had an argument and Ms Prebble alleged he headbutted her and she ran out into the freezing road and called police.

Mr Massetti said Ms Prebble had thrown a bucket of water at him and that he was ‘defending myself’.

The affair was this time finally over, and Ms Prebble believed her former lover had squandered his millions, saying ‘The man won Lotto but he’s not a lucky man at all’.

Since Ms Prebble’s return to Australia, she has posted about ‘forever chasing the sun’ in Sydney and reconnecting with family members.

Her case is due for mention at Waverley Local Court on July 31.
