Perth woman Anne Morgan-Lewis took to Facebook after she discovered that the Woolworths brand ‘Delicious Carrot Cake’ didn’t actually contain much carrot
‘Thought it didn’t taste at all of carrots and I could only see tiny flecks of orange in it, which might have been carrot-related.’
When Ms Morgan-Lewis checked the ingredient list she found the cake only contains three per cent carrot.
‘In a 300g cake, this equates to 9g or about three think slices of carrot PER CAKE,’ she angrily wrote.
‘That is half a thin slice of carrot per serve of cake. Why do you call this carrot cake?’
To ensure the supermarket giant understood her frustration, she accompanied the post with three thin slices of carrot to show exactly what 9g looked like.
She also added another image showing how much carrot would be in a single serve of the cake.
Woolworths replied to the post saying they were going to look into the matter further.
A Woolworths spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that products go through ‘rigorous customer testing’ before reaching shelves.
‘Our carrot cake was well received in our sensory testing panels and continues to be one of our most popular cakes,’ she said.
