A murder investigation has been launched after a woman’s body was found at a home in Melbourne’s east. 

She was discovered at Box Hill South just shortly after midday on Tuesday at the Canterbury Road property.

The homicide squad is investigating whether the death is suspicious.

It is understood that the body had been there for a few days and was found by a family member. 

Victoria Police spokeswoman Belinda Batty said officers are still establishing the facts. 

‘The exact circumstances around the woman’s death are yet to be established and the investigation is ongoing,’ 

Neighbour Steve Hood told 7 News the circumstances were upsetting. 

‘It’s very distressing … to find out that someone next door has come to grief. She was a very lovely lady.’
