Women raped by Queensland man who slipped rohypnol into wine

A Queensland man has been ordered to undergo testing for hepatitis B and HIV after allegedly drugging and raping a coworker’s girlfriend and then bribing the pair to keep quiet.

The 46-year-old man has been accused of giving Rohypnol to the couple after a night out on the Gold Coast and raping the woman twice after dumping her boyfriend at a park.

The accused was denied bail at Southport Magistrates Court on Wednesday and ordered to undergo the testing as the woman, who was a virgin, now faces an excruciating wait for the test results.

Police allege the man offered to pay the woman $100,000 to stay silent after he drugged her and her male partner, before dumping him in a park and returning home to rape her.

After the reported incident, which is claimed to have happened on January 20, the man allegedly told his colleague: ‘Maybe I drink a lot and have sex with your girlfriend. I’m willing to work this out without telling the police.’

According to the Gold Coast Bulletin the man said the couple willingly took the drug, which had been prescribed to him, and that the sex was consensual, however, the court was told on Wednesday that the man had been convicted in 2012 of sexual assault.

It is alleged the man put Rohypnol in the couple’s wine after they went to his house following dinner out in Surfers Paradise.

The man, who is in custody since his arrest in March, will also face one charge of administering a drug to commit rape as well as two counts of rape.

The woman started to feel tired and he told her to lie down in his bed and then encouraged the boyfriend to take a drive, according to the Gold Coast Bulletin.

The publication reports the man took the boyfriend to a park and ditched him there after falling asleep. He was found by a passer-by who took him to a police station where he appeared extremely dazed and confused.

Police claim the man had returned home to rape his colleague’s girlfriend while she slept in the bed.

Forensic investigators are taking samples of blood found on the bed sheets and comparing it to the woman’s.

Neither said they recalled the incident until after they returned home and slept while the defendant claimed he had slept in the car that night.

The woman’s partner later confronted the man, who attempted to bribe them with the money, but the couple reported the alleged incident to police the following day.
