‘Making my own lunch and thinking twice before buying something [has been massive],’ one woman posted.

‘I know they sound silly, but I manage to save about $10,000 this year sticking to this.’

Others said that saving $10 a day that you might spend on a cafe-bought lunch soon really adds up.

The same can be said of coffee, which others said is great to make at home instead of buy – as you can save up to $1,200 in a year.

Some women said that writing down where you spend will help you to save:

‘Record keeping! Seeing where your money goes is a HUGE wake up call,’ one said.

Others highlighted that you should save ‘all additional income’ – whether it’s your tax return or extra days worked.

Then, you need to have multiple bank accounts or funds – where you spend from, save and keep your holiday money.

‘Learning to cook and meal prep has been a big one. Rarely buy food out or takeout now. Saved thousands,’ one woman posted.

Whereas others said you really need to think before you buy if you want to be successful with cash:

‘Actually thinking about what I am buying, thinking about how many hours I have worked to be able to buy a certain product. Time is money,’ one woman wrote.

Another said she has taken up cycling and saved money on petrol and parking over the year.

Finally, some said ditching meat and booze is where they’ve seen the biggest savings.

‘We also introduced a “fakeaway” night,’ said one.

‘We dropped takeaway and do a “fakeaway” now on alternative weeks (homemade pizza, burgers, chips, nachos, butter chicken, sushi etc.

‘It’s healthier and cheaper!’
