A Woolworths customer has showcased exactly how he scored free groceries to the tune of $31 last time he shopped at the supermarket.

The man behind TikTok account TheIsDopeOz shared the ‘genius’ hack for getting free money on Monday, revealing how he recycled old soft drink cans at Reverse Vending Machines (RVM) set up by Tomra at his local Woolies store in Geebung, Queensland.

This machines are set up at select supermarkets in NSW, Western Australia and Queensland so shoppers can get up to 10 cents per item recycled.

In the footage the Aussie man shows a stack of cans in the back of his car which he promptly drops off at an RVM site and collects ‘voucher’ tickets to be used on his grocery haul.

He then visits the self service checkouts with his haul of food and scans the barcodes on the voucher, which show that he has pre-paid for his loot.

‘This is sick, appreciate it,’ he said.

‘It’s a shame it’s not in Tasmania yet,’ one of his followers wrote back.

If shoppers are looking for an easier way to save money at the checkout as the cost of living crisis only worsens, using the RVMs is a great start.

‘Tomra provides reverse vending machines in a number of communities, where customers can return their containers and receive a refund of 10 cents for every piece.
