As shoppers race to Woolworths to get their hands on The Lion King collectables, rare ‘Ooshies’ have emerged on eBay selling for as much as $20,000.

On Wednesday morning, the Australian supermarket giant unveiled the limited edition range featuring 24 Disney characters to collect.

Just hours after the launch, customers started to cash in on their rare finds, with an orange Simba, a blue Spirit Mufasa, and a gold Nala already listed for sale for hundreds of dollars.

But the grocery chain has now confirmed the rarest Ooshies character to look out for is the ‘Furry Simba’, with only 100 of them out there to add to your collection.

There are at least 25 listings on eBay since supermarket doors opened on July 17.

One seller has listed a ‘super rare blue Mufasa’ Ooshie for a starting bid of $20,000.

Another seller, from Victoria, has advertised a gold Mufasa for $999, ‘cash only on pick up’.

Other items include a gold Zazu for $1,000, a gold Nala for $800 and an orange ‘sunset Simba’ for $1,350 if you ‘Buy It Now’.

‘You are bidding on a gold cub Simba, the future king of the pride lands. If you don’t have the “baby” SIMBA you don’t have a story… it all starts here,’ one of the ads said.

‘As would be expected by royalty (gold cub Simba) he will travel in nothing but the best which will be a gold envelope.

‘To ensure Scar does not try to kill him off before his arrival Gold cub Simba will be going first class (and by first class I mean registered post through Australia Post).

‘Gold Cub Simba needs a new home because ours has no Pride Lands for him to become future king of. Will that kingdom be yours?

‘Good luck Gold Cub Simba on finding your destined Kingdom.’

The eBay listing comes after just hours of the launch of the much-love The Lion King themed collectables.

On Monday, managing director of The Walt Disney Company Australia Kylie Watson-Wheeler said: ‘We are beyond excited to welcome the all-new The Lion King to the big screen, with iconic characters that audiences have long treasured. 

‘Our partnership with Woolworths will delight fans as they get to collect these long-treasured characters and introduce the beloved story to a new generation.’

Woolworths programs manager Sarah De La Mare said they wanted to offer their customers ‘something special’ to celebrate the launch of the blockbuster film.

‘We know that many Aussies love Ooshies, and this unique Lion King collection is something that Lion King fans will want to keep and treasure for a long time,’ she said. 

‘Ooshies are also a popular gift and we believe that this collectable program will provide customers with fantastic added value and excitement when they choose to shop with us.

‘We’ve sought to create a fun and exciting shopping experience for Australian families, while also being mindful of our environmental responsibilities.’

Customers can purchase a Lion King Collector’s Album to house the Ooshies for $4.
