Woolworths owns up to putting dog biscuits in snack aisle

Woolworths has owned up to putting dog biscuits in the snack food aisle after a mother accidentally fed pet food to her children.

Sydney mother-of-three Tania Toomey took to Woolworth’s Facebook page to vent her anger after claiming the pet food was disguised nearby the confectionery aisle.

The supermarket initially said the dog biscuits were only stocked in the pet food aisle.

However, a spokesman admitted on Tuesday that a mix-up had occurred.

‘Woolworths can confirm that a single packet of Scooby Snacks dog biscuits was accidentally placed in the biscuit aisle at the Woolworths North Strathfield store last week and subsequently purchased by a customer,’ the spokesman told the Courier Mail.

One Sydney mother did little to please her young kids after a catastrophic mix-up left them snacking on dog biscuits (pictured) instead of their usual packet of crisps

A Twitter user said she had made the same mistake as Ms Toomey and shared a picture of the dog biscuits alongside Oreos and Shapes biscuits in a Melbourne supermarket

The spokesman added that the product in question was only stocked in the pet food aisle.

However, it appears mix-ups are a more frequent occurrence with other shoppers complaining that the dog biscuits have been spotted in the wrong aisle at Woolworths supermarkets around Australia.

A Twitter user said she had made the same mistake as Ms Toomey and shared a picture of the dog biscuits alongside Oreos and Shapes biscuits in a Melbourne supermarket.

‘Re: Scooby Snack story – me too! In Melb, they said ‘it happens often’ & still is. No wonder we thought it was a kids snack,’ she wrote.

Dave Woolf wrote on the Woolworths’ Facebook page last month after he saw the pet food in the wrong aisle in a store in Victoria.

‘How many people have fed these to their children without knowing?’ he wrote.

And a father-of-two from Sydney’s northern beaches said he mistakenly bought the dog snacks for his two young sons by mistake last year.

He bought the treats after they were wrongly placed in the snack food aisle of his local Woolworths after grabbing the packet without inspecting the packaging, he told news.com.au.

It comes after Ms Toomey blasted Woolworths after buying a box of the Scooby Snacks and feeding them to her children.

‘Put in lunchboxes and ‘Kids came home and said yuck they are disgusting’ BE CAREFUL! The store is very disorganised and very little healthy option snacks for children in a family area’ she wrote.

Despite the front of the bag clearly stating ‘PET FOOD ONLY’ the packaging design appears to be marketed towards children, something which Ms Toomey believes will confuse others.

‘How many others have been sucked in?’ she questioned.

In her attempts to call Woolworths’ emergency contact, she was in disbelief to be put through to store security, where she was told to write her complaint on a feedback sheet.

In retaliation Ms Toomey claimed she would be taking her custom to supermarket rivals Coles.

This isn’t the first time the dog treats have come under question as mothers in New Zealand also made the same mistake when buying the treats.

‘I was absolutely mortified when I gave them to my daughter. She took one bite and said, ‘this is rubbish’,’ one mother wrote on Facebook in June.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Woolworths for comment.
