Woolworths customers have had their rewards cards hacked and their points stolen just two weeks before Christmas.

The Australian supermarket giant confirmed on Wednesday that Woolworths Rewards members had reported hundreds of dollars worth of points as stolen.

Disgruntled customers took to the company’s social media pages to voice their concerns over the credit taken from their accounts.

One said: ‘What is the point of saving up our rewards for Christmas if any piece of trash can access the points?’

The WA resident noted that $170 had vanished from their account and been redeemed by someone in Melbourne.

A Woolworths spokesperson said: ‘We’ve received reports of fraudulent point redemptions from some Woolworths Rewards members in recent weeks.

‘We’ve taken the precautionary step of locking down any accounts with suspicious point redemptions while we work with individual members to verify if the activity was legitimate.’

The spokesperson told Daily Mail Australia that they believed member login details and passwords were gained through phishing scams.

In all reported cases the accounts were accessed ‘through the front door’ with legitimate login details.

‘There has been no mass data breach, only isolated examples,’ the spokesperson said.

The hacked accounts had their details changed and members were issued with a new card.

Woolworths have also been taking precautions to shut down any account that shows suspicious activities.

The spokesperson said that Woolworths have also reported the issue to police and will fully reinstate any missing points to its members.
