A shopper has been greeted with rows upon rows of markdown products, with vitamins, supplements and proteins slashed by more than 50 per cent at Woolworths.

The woman, from Brisbane, was left confused after she spotted hundreds of discounted items at her local store.

‘What is going on with Woolies lately? I’ve never seen so many half price markdowns in my life,’ she wrote in a Facebook group.

‘I hear Big W is also offering ridiculous bargains.’

A Woolworths spokeswoman told Daily Mail Australia: ‘At Woolworths, we’re always working to offer great value on everyday items for our customers through weekly specials.

‘A couple of weeks ago we ran a big sale in our Health & Beauty category, which included half price vitamins on selected brands.

‘Customers are encouraged to visit our website and browse through the catalogue to check the latest prices and plan their weekly shop.’

Her post was met with dozens of comments, with one shopper joking: ‘RIP the ticket person in that store.’

Another said: ‘It’s because nobody uses makeup anymore in lockdown,’ while another added: ‘Try being one of the poor souls putting all those tickets up.’

However, some shoppers said there was a simple explanation for the excessive amount of shelf tickets after they were told the excess stock was being reduced due to Covid-19.

Others suggested supermarkets could be discounting seasonal products because winter is almost over for the year.

While another shopper explained: ‘Our local Big W said they are getting stock from stores that are closed from lockdown and it had to be cleared.’

The markdowns come just days after shoppers showed off their massive lockdown grocery hauls after saving hundreds of dollars.
