  • Diane said she was charged for using her own bag on four separate occasions
  •  She said it was ‘quite obvious’ her bags weren’t new with ‘little tears’

A disgruntled Woolworths shopper is urging customers to check their receipts after she was charged for using her own reusable bags.

Diane shared the complaint on the supermarket giant’s Facebook page last week.

She claimed she was charged despite the fact it was ‘quite obvious’ the bag she was using wasn’t new when she gave it to the cashier.

‘Not happy Woolworths! For the third time (that I am aware of) you have charged me 15 cents for my own bag!’ she wrote.

‘Those bags are so neatly and tightly folded that it should be quite obvious to anyone that they have not just been picked up in store that day. The scrunched up handles and few little tears are also a dead give away.’

Diane also said she made a point of saying ‘here’s my bag’ to the cashier.

‘Please people, check your receipts from Woolies as I’m sure I’m not the only one this would be happening to.’

The supermarket giant apologised and said the mistake was not intentional.

‘It looks like an error by one of our team members, and we’d be more than happy to fix it up next time you’re in store. We like seeing our customers bring their own bags and wouldn’t intentionally re-scan them.’

But Diane’s post prompted a range of responses.

‘Scanning bags which are already purchased by customers? Is this not stealing? I hope Woolworths are charged to the full extent of the law,’ one woman said.

‘That sometimes happens by mistake. Do you think it was done deliberately?,’ another woman asked, before suggesting shoppers use a Sharpie to ‘colour over the barcode on your bags’ to stop it from being scanned.
