Woolworths shopper is left baffled by ‘absurd’ online shopping fail: ‘You know there’s a food shortage when this arrives’

  •  A Woolworths shopper has revealed their recent ‘epic online shopping fail’
  • The woman said she expected to find an iceberg lettuce in her shopping bags
  • Instead the professional shoppers chose a ‘tiny’ cos lettuce to substitute order

A Woolworths shopper has revealed the perils of online shopping at the moment – after the iceberg lettuce she ordered was substituted with a very disappointing ‘core’.

The woman posted a photo of the small lettuce she received which appears to be a cos heart variety.

‘You know there is a food shortage when this comes in your online Woolies order for an iceberg lettuce,’ she wrote alongside the photo.

The busy woman decided not to ‘clog up the Woolworths complaint line’ with the issue.

‘I just saw the funny side of it,’ she said.

But a Woolworths spokesperson told FEMAIL the lettuce substitution wasn’t up to their standards.

‘While our teams aim to provide a great experience every time, we don’t always get it right and this order fell well below our usual standards for produce,’ they said.

And other shoppers were quick to express their opinions, the post attracted more than a thousand comments.

‘That’s the saddest looking lettuce, you would have been better off with two leaves of iceberg instead,’ one woman wrote.

Once pulled apart the tiny lettuce was found to have just ten tiny leaves.

‘I would have made the world’s tiniest salad and presented it to the store manager,’ one woman said – noting the substitute wasn’t appropriate in her opinion.

Others revealed they have also had surprising finds, particularly with fruit and vegetables, when ordering food online.

One woman claimed she was once sent a cauliflower ‘the size of an apple’ when buying her groceries online as another complained she once got a tomato ‘barely bigger than a cherry tomato’.

Another was left disappointed after finding tampons in her shopping instead of nappies.

But others have had the opposite happen – admitting the professional shoppers do a ‘better job picking produce’ than they do.

‘I got the best packet of tomatoes last time – all different sizes and colours and delicious,’ one woman said.

And while the shopper said she saw the small lettuce substitute as a sign of the times FEMAIL understands  it had nothing to do with supply issues.

instead it is being viewed as an isolated incident highlighting the need for quality control.

A Woolworths spokesperson also said: ‘We have a dedicated team of personal shoppers who work hard to handpick thousands of online orders to the highest standard every day.’

They have said they are happy to offer the customer a refund on this occasion and encourage her to contact them directly.
