Sydney Woolworths employee Liam Kirley has revealed how his store in Double Bay ‘upcycles’ discounted loaves of bread about to expire. Rather than throwing the unwanted bread away, it’s turned into delicious garlic bread
‘In our stores we bake fresh bread daily, however sometimes we don’t sell it all,’ Liam said in the clip.
‘So in our Double Bay store, we’re reducing food waste by giving these loaves another life in the form of delicious garlic bread.’
Once the garlic bread has been made it’s then frozen and ready to be sold in store.
To make the desired food, the Woolworths bakery employees cut the bread in ‘specific ways’ for each type to form slits.
Next, the garlic butter is spread in between, then the bread is frozen for 12 hours before being offered.
At the moment this addition, in attempt to move towards zero food waste, is only available at the Double Bay store.
