Woolworths will be donating all profits from sales on Saturday in their fresh departments to an appeal supporting Australian farmers impacted by the recent drought.

All profits from sales of fruit and veg, meat, chilled foods, the bakery and the deli section will go towards Rural Aid’s Buy a Bale appeal.

The funds raised on August 11 will help the charity fund more feed for farmers, household supplies and counselling services.

Woolworths are backing up their $1.5million donation to Rural Aid’s Buy a Bale appeal by announcing they will give all their fresh food sales on Saturday August 11 to the campaign

Woolworths Managing Director Claire Peters said: ‘It’s been amazing to see our customers and store teams rally behind Aussie farmers impacted by this drought.

‘In less than a week, our customers have already donated in excess of $600,000 for Rural Aid’s Buy a Bale appeal through our checkouts nationwide.

‘This generosity is making a real difference in rural communities, and has inspired us to build on our support of Rural Aid’s vital work.’

The money raised for the appeal on Saturday will be in addition to the $1.5million contribution made by Woolworths to Rural Aid last week.

Rural Aid CEO Charles Alder said: ‘We’ve been overwhelmed by the response of the Woolworths store teams and customers over the past week.

‘Since the supermarket came on board as a partner with their initial $1.5 million donation, we’ve been able to provide more certainty to hundreds of farmers.

Profits from sales of fruit and veg, meat, chilled foods, the bakery and the deli section will go towards the appeal.

‘This further boost to funding this Saturday will have a significant impact on the long term support we are going to be able to provide farmers in drought affected regions.’

Customers will also be able to donate to the Buy a Bale appeal at any Woolworths, Woolworths Metro or petrol store –  as well as Woolworths Online.

Woolworths are also putting a spotlight on Australian produce this weekend, with Fresh Fairs in their stores increasing the range of fresh products on offer to customers.

Rural Aid was founded in 2015 and to date has received more than $4.5million in donations, according to their website.
