Worker crushed to death by asphalt roller in Victoria

A worker from Victoria’s Murray Basin Rail Project is dead after being crushed by machinery.

The 58-year-old man died at a Mildura landscape supply business on Tuesday when an asphalt roller he was loading onto a trailer fell on him, police said.

‘The incident happened at a landscape suppliers when a bitumen roller, which was being loaded onto a trailer, moved without any warning and pinned the man between the roller and the trailer,’ Victoria Police said in a statement.

Paramedics performed CPR on the man but he died at the scene.  

WorkSafe Victoria is investigating the death and police are preparing a report for the coroner. 

The Murray Basin Rail Project involves ‘standardising the rail freight lines servicing the Murray Basin region in the north-west of Victoria,’ according to Public Transport Victoria.
