The World Cup is officially in full swing after two full days of fixtures culminated in England beating Iran, Wales rescuing a dramatic draw against the USA and Holland easing past Senegal.

Terry whisked out of the queue… but no such luck for Park!

Eyebrows were raised outside the Khalifa International Stadium when an enthusiastic official spotted John Terry in the queue for the media entrance ahead of the England versus Iran match.

Former Chelsea and England captain Terry, who is working as a pundit for BeIN SPORTS at the tournament, was promptly given a pass to get out of the line and hurried down a priority lane.

No such preferential treatment for former South Korea and Manchester United midfielder Park Ji-sung, however.

He was closer to the entrance than Terry and remained patiently with the rank and file before passing through a security search that made some British airports look rapid.

Freeman shows his improv skills

There were fears for Morgan Freeman at rehearsals for the opening ceremony.

The Hollywood movie star segued into a little health emergency improv, prompting concern until it became clear he was only fooling around. Don’t tell the footballers, they’ll be signing up for a workshop.

Valderrama as classy as ever

The fabulously conspicuous Carlos Valderrama proved one of the must-have selfies of the 2018 World Cup in Russia, when he was easily spotted around Colombia games.

Colombia did not qualify for Qatar but Valderrama is here again on TV duty. It really wouldn’t feel like a World Cup without him. At 61, the famous Afro hair is greyer but remains plentiful and he is still pulling them in for selfies with good grace.

Argentina and Mexico fans light up Doha

The World Cup woke up in Doha on Monday with far more supporters out and about on the streets, Argentina and Mexico the most populous. Both play on Tuesday. One Mexican claimed 60,000 fans were heading from the nation to Qatar.

Laugh-a-minute in the England camp

England warmed up for the World Cup by watching comedy duo Rob Beckett and Romesh Ranganathan’s Three Lions special, featuring their visit to St George’s Park, at the team hotel on Sunday.

Beckett stuns Mason Mount and Jude Bellingham by scoring a couple of screamers, but the starstruck Gunner lets himself down when he tells Harry Kane he wishes he played for Arsenal.

The pair then take on Kyle Walker in a nearest-the-pin competition at a driving range, Ranganathan snatching an unlikely victory.
