Deep in the heart of the Malaysian rainforest, the chatter of monkeys and chirping of exotic birds are among the sounds penetrating the wildlife-rich eco-system.

But soon the piercing screams of adrenaline junkies will also ring out after the world’s longest mountain water slide has been unveiled to snake through this stretch of jungle.

Spanning 3,645ft, the blue and yellow chute at the ESCAPE theme park in northern Penang will see thrill-seekers mount an inflatable tube before hurtling through the four-minute-long ride.

The attraction starts on a hilltop 230ft above the ground, with riders transported to the top by a specially constructed chairlift.

The completion of the mammoth construction job has earned the slide a Guinness World Record after it tripled the length of the previous record-holding slide in Germany.

Sim Choo Kheng, boss of park operator Sim Leisure Group, said: ‘The idea of this water slide came about over frustration that most fun rides and water slides last merely a few seconds, and having the water slide start on a hilltop at a 70 metre elevation would make this ride last a good few minutes.’

Building the 488-piece slide was mostly done manually, without using heavy machinery, to avoid damaging the natural environment, the operator said.

China is home to an even bigger water slide, an 8,900ft ride that winds down a hillside in Lishui.

Guinness this month named it the world’s longest mountain water slide.
