Wrexham star Paul Mullin offered a hilarious response after he almost bit an opponent during their 3-1 loss to Birmingham City on Monday.

Mullin failed to find the target as Jay Stansfield’s double inspired the Blues to victory in a match taken in by Tom Brady, who owns a minority stake in Birmingham, and Wrexham co-owner Rob McElhenney.

Manchester United legends Gary Neville and David Beckham were also present at St. Andrew’s as guests of Brady on the night.

However, Mullin almost grabbed the headlines when he came painfully close to his very own Luis Suarez moment during the League One clash.

The incident occurred in the second half when Birmingham defender Alec Cochrane fell on top of Mullin.

The Wrexham star then grabbed onto Cochrane’s calf and looked ready to bite.

However, Mullin wisely stopped himself before sinking his teeth into his rival.

Mullin reacted to the incident in question on social media after the match and posted on X: ‘I know what it looks like.. but it didn’t happen. Although you can tell his leg was thinking about attacking my mouth.’

The incident sparked an all-in fracas from both teams and it forced the referee to dish out five yellow cards as a result, including one to Wrexham’s James McClean and Birmingham skipper Krystian Bielik.

Bielik would be sent off for a second bookable offence five minutes later, although Wrexham were unable to capitalise on their extra-man advantage.

In a post-match interview with Sky Sports, Cochrane described the melee as nothing more than ‘handbags’.

‘I don’t really know, to be honest,’ Cochrane said.

‘I was just on the floor. Handbags out of nothing. A load of nonsense, really.’

Mullin was wise not to press ahead with nibbling at Cochrane given the lengthy suspensions Suarez has copped for three separate biting incidents.

The Uruguayan copped a seven-game suspension in 2010 during his Ajax days when he bit PSV’s Otman Bakkal.

Suarez was back at it just three years later after his teeth latched onto Chelsea defender Branislav Ivanovic and was suspended by the FA for 10 games.

But the former Liverpool sharpshooter received a staggering four-month ban and an additional nine-game international ban when he bit Italy’s Giorgio Chiellini at the 2014 World Cup.
