Wynonna Judd rehearses with Ashley McBryde for the CMT Music Awards – after death of her mother

Wynonna Judd and Ashley McBryde spent their Friday rehearsing for the upcoming CMT Awards in Austin, Texas.

The two country music stars took the stage together to practice before their performance at the biggest night in country music on April 2.

Wynonna, 58, performed at the CMT Awards in 2022, which would end up being her last ever live performance with her mom Naomi Judd, who died on April 30, 2022, after committing suicide due to her ongoing battle with mental illness.

For the rehearsal, the No One Else On Earth songstress donned a simple black top underneath a flowing lightweight cardigan and black jeans.

She wore her auburn hair down naturally and left her bangs out to fall straight across her forehead.

The beauty accessorized with a large cross necklace that hung down towards the bottom of her stomach and wore a simple wedding band on her left ring finger.

Beside her, Ashley, 39, wore a one-sleeve black bodysuit that revealed the abundance of tattoos on both her arm and her chest.

The One Night Standards hitmaker tucked the bodysuit into the waistband of her boot-cut jeans.

She also had on a pair of brown cowboy boots and opted for no accessories for her time on the stage.

The beauty styled her dark hair in heavy curls that fell around her shoulders and sported a light layer of makeup on her face.

The pair worked on their performance together, which included the use of a smoke machine and even clasped hands and raised them up together as they sang.

Wynonna was originally a part of the mother-daughter duo The Judds with her mom Naomi, who had a very successful music career.

At the 2022 CMT Awards, Wynonna and Naomi performed their song Love Can Build A Bridge during the ceremony.

This performance with McBryde will not be her first time performing in a public setting since her mom passed.

The Grammy-winning duo had planned their final tour before Naomi’s death, and Wynonna decided to continue it without her late mother.

‘I have to admit, I’ve had an incredible, incredible opportunity to heal through all of this, to cry and to say things onstage that I’ll never say again,’ the mother-of-two told The Hollywood Reporter.

‘This is a whole other level of deep, and I wasn’t expecting it. I knew it would be intense but this is literally, “Oh, my Lord,”‘ she continued.

‘This is me with a broken heart being as open as I’ll probably ever be, and other people are responding to that in a way that I wasn’t expecting.’

Naomi’s battle with mental illness became severe after the Judds stopped touring, leaving her unable to get off the couch for two years and seeking out electro-shock therapy for help.

Wynonna said she initially thought the shows were going to be more of a memorial to her mother, and was surprised to hear her fans singing along with the songs and paying tribute to her mother through the joy of a concert.

‘I realized that these people are singing every word, and I’m serious. It was so loud at times. I didn’t sing. And I would just stand back from the microphone. I would take a step back literally and go, “Whoa.”’ she said.

‘And then I would let the fans sing and they sang so loud and they sang every stinking word. And it blew my mind. It just took me to another level of existence.

‘I felt suspended onstage. I really did. I felt like I levitated off the stage many a night. I would come offstage and say, “I don’t know what just happened, but it was otherworldly.”’

She described the experience – pointing out the cellphone lights people waved in lieu of lighters – as ‘light therapy.’

‘I’m glad I showed up – ’cause it’s changed my life. It’s changed my life forever,’ she said.
