Jason said the pregnancy was completely unexpected, and occurred when the duo were on their honeymoon in the Whitsundays, Queensland.

‘We have been trying for the last three years for a baby as we wanted to be young parents, and had no luck – so we were very surprised to conceive on our honeymoon in June,’ he said.

‘We had even talked about visiting a fertility specialist to check things out if nothing happened this year.’

He said the experience was even more special following a year of uncertainty for the pair, who had to cancel their wedding three times in 12 months due to the pandemic.

‘Knowing that I am going to be a father myself will make for a very special Father’s Day for me and is the best gift I could have ever received,’ he added.

‘We are so thrilled and excited.’

Jason, who finished runner-up to Samantha Jade on The X Factor back in 2012, shared an ultrasound picture next to his proud partner to celebrate the news.

He had proposed to his girlfriend live on Studio 10 in 2019, stunning audiences as he bent down on one knee to Celine Dion’s ballad Power Of Love.

‘I love this girl so much,’ Jason said at the time. ‘She’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me. And I really love you more than words can describe.

‘I wouldn’t want to think of it any other way than being with you here right now, for the rest of my life, and I love you so much.’

Jason has released a new single this week, which is a cover of Cat Stevens’ Father and Son sung with country music star James Blundell.

The song is a charity single for Jason’s upcoming ‘Doin It for Rural Aussie Kids’ end of year road trip, with all funds raised going towards buying toys for isolated and rural Australian children.

Besides music, Jason has also teamed up with Kids Helpline (1800 55 1800) charity to help spread the word about young people’s mental health in rural Australia.

He explained he had a near-death experience when he was younger, and has suffered from PTSD and anxiety throughout his life as a result.

He wishes he chose to discuss it was someone when he was growing up.

‘When I was 11 my father and I were almost killed in a serious motorbike accident which set off my PTSD and set me up for future anxieties.’ he said.

‘I never discussed it with anyone, but I wish I had now.’
