You CAN find true love on Take Me Out! One couple’s extraordinary story is revealed

Lindsay McCartney was unimpressed when Andrew Shaw rejected her for another girl – Peggy Lawrence – during the second season of Britain’s Take Me Out in 2011.

But seven years later, the couple are now happily married and living in Australia, and even celebrated their fifth wedding anniversary last week.

Speaking to Daily Mail Australia, Scottish lass Lindsay shared the pair’s remarkable story, admitting she ‘wasn’t even looking for love’ when she applied for the show.

‘I set myself a list of tasks to achieve by the time I turned 21 and one of them was to be on TV. I didn’t care what it was, it could have been a game show – anything. I literally just did Take Me Out for a bit of fun,’ she said.

Lindsay revealed her first impression of Liverpudlian Andrew wasn’t great, admitting: ‘He was alright, nothing too spectacular!’

Nonetheless, she decided to leave her light on during her now-husband’s segment – but he ended up choosing another woman.

‘He actually did not end up picking me, at all! He took out a girl named Peggy and they went on the date. He hated it, apparently,’ she said.

Lindsay admitted she was ‘arch enemies’ with Peggy as a result of the televised love triangle, describing her as ‘fake and plastic fantastic’.

‘Andrew thought that she was not in it for the right reasons either,’ she added. ‘It was all about her and her career, but he really wanted to find love again.’

After Andrew broke things off with Peggy, he surprised Lindsay by getting in touch.

‘Three weeks later, he contacted me saying, “Hey, you’re the girl in the red dress. My family was in the audience and they told me I should have picked you. I didn’t even look at you. I’m so sorry.”

‘I was like, “Yeah whatever, d**khead!”‘

Lindsay initially refused Andrew’s date requests but, after speaking to her family about the situation, decided to give him a second chance.

Andrew travelled four hours to Scotland to take Lindsay out on a date and they soon became inseparable, spending every subsequent weekend together.

And even after Lindsay dismissed Andrew’s onscreen portrayal as ‘arrogant’, she found herself falling in love with him in real life.

Nine months later, Andrew proposed by writing ‘Will you marry me?’ in the sand while on a beach holiday in Florida.

Lindsay revealed that moving Down Under was always her life plan.

‘I told Andrew it was a condition when I met him that I wanted to come to Australia for my nursing,’ she said. ‘I just knew there were better opportunities for nursing in Australia. That’s something I’ve always wanted to do.

‘I got the better end of the deal because I got him chasing me. We are now planning in the near future to have kids. At the moment we have a dog, he’s our fur baby!’

Meanwhile, the lovebirds recently bought a house together in Melbourne.
