‘You don’t deserve to govern. You deserve to be turfed out’: Greens blistering speech creates havoc

Greens leader Richard Di Natale gave a scathing speech against the Liberal Party in the Senate on Thursday – and within hours it had already been shared thousands of times by Australians desperate for an end to the current instability and turmoil.

The heartfelt and emotive review of the party’s antics became the source of social media frenzy, with thousands taking to Twitter and Facebook to commend, agree with and comment on the numerous issues Mr Di Natale addressed.

He took further aim at the offending parties in the debacle that could see Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull lose the top job in less than 24 hours, saying: ‘You don’t deserve to govern. You deserve to be turfed out. That’s what you deserve.’

‘We’ve got 100 per cent of New South Wales that’s in drought right now. We’ve got a Great Barrier Reef that’s on the brink of collapse, we’ve got floods in India,’ he said in the speech delivered in the Senate.

‘We’ve got a 12-year-old girl who’s setting herself alight in Nauru.

‘We’ve got kids who are in a catatonic state because they’ve given up hope locked away in those offshore hell holes.’

Mr Di Natale also made note of Australians from lower socioeconomic classes, struggling to pay their bills, being forced to cut their education short, or even going homeless.

‘And what have we got? We’ve got this spectacle. This disgrace. You should be ashamed of yourselves,’ he said.

The emphatic politician’s speech has been met with praise from colleagues and social media users.

One user took to Twitter to say: ‘ I’ve never been ‘political’ but I believe in integrity, respect and honesty. Listening to Richard today gave me some hope that there is decency left in politics.’

‘You should get fired up more often mate. You captured how so many of us ordinary Australians are feeling. Thanks for shouting,’ wrote another.

‘Now THAT is the kind of speech our country has been crying out for.’

The comprehensive overview of government wrongdoings was heated, and met with blank stares from opposing parliamentarians.

The full speech has already been shared over 10,000 times online, with shorter snippets also cycling, most of which with praise for Di Natale.

‘You are so focused on yourselves that you have forgotten what the country has elected you to do, and that is to govern for them, not for you,’ he said.
