A mother has been mauled by two American Bulldogs as her young children watched on in a vicious attack.
The attack in a backyard in Beaconsfield, Melbourne was the third serious mauling in Victoria in less than a week.
The victim’s children – aged three and five – were at home playing with their father’s English springer spaniel when she was bitten, 3AW reported.
The two American Bulldogs had broken through a fence from a neighbouring property.
The woman’s father Craig Kinder said she was ‘distressed and shocked’, and tried to save her children while she was being bitten.
‘She was telling my granddaughter to take my grandson inside… while these two American Bulldogs were busy attacking,’ Mr Kinder said.
The woman was hospitalised for three days after she sustained serious injuries.
The owners of the Bulldogs had moved into their home just days before the attack.
Mr Kinder said dangerous dogs should be outlawed in Australia.
‘The people need to have a licence or the breed needs to be banned, and I think the state government needs to do that,’ he said.
The two dogs responsible for the attack were euthanised.
