  • A boyfriend’s lavish anniversary gift for his girlfriend has divided opinion online
  • He decorated the bedroom with balloons, fairy lights, candles and gift bags
  • Gifts included lingerie from swanky label Honey Birdette and trinkets from Kmart
  • The man’s sister posted photos of the extravagant spread in a Facebook group
  • She said she arranged everything but was slammed by trolls for meddling

A sister has divided opinion by helping her brother plan a lavish surprise for his girlfriend to mark their one-year anniversary.

She posted photos of the extravagant spread which included expensive lingerie, wine, pastries, candles, giant heart-shaped balloons and seven gift bags in an Australian Facebook group, telling members she had arranged everything for him.

The photos have been liked 1,900 times since they were shared on Monday morning with many calling her brother ‘the perfect man’, but not everyone was impressed by the romantic gesture.

The post initially received such a negative response that the group administrator was forced to remove comments slamming the woman for involving herself in her sibling’s love life and being too ‘extravagant’.

‘Was it your brother’s surprise for his girlfriend, or your surprise for his girlfriend?’ one person asked in a reply still visible under the photos.

Too much or just enough? An Australian woman arranged this lavish spread as a surprise for her younger brother’s girlfriend to mark their one-year anniversary

The images show giant heart-shaped balloons with helium hanging over the bed, with a dozen smaller balloons and fairy lights scattered across the floor.

Seven gift bags filled with trinkets from Kmart are positioned at the head of the bed along with an eighth bag from upscale lingerie label, Honey Birdette.

Two trays sit at the foot, the first holding a bottle of white wine and two champagne flutes and the second overflowing with pastries, cheese and crackers.

The woman hit back at trolls, asking why they felt it was wrong for her to help her brother surprise the girl he loves.

‘I helped him plan this and went to the store together, he purchased the items himself,’ she said.

Another said: ‘These people are just jealous. I think it’s amazing he wanted to do something like that and had the b***s to ask for help to pull it off!’

Others were supportive and joked that her decorative handiwork had put her on the fast track to becoming an aunt.

‘Brownie points for you sister! I hope he knows he MORE than owes you! What an awesome job you’ve done, looks so good,’ one said.

A second asked if she was ‘ready to become an aunty’ in nine months time.

A third wondered how her brother can top anniversaries gifts in the future.

‘He does know that it needs to be stepped up every year right? I wanna see pics every year,’ she said.

Some praised the young man for his romantic efforts, calling the gesture ‘boyfriend goals’.
