Young woman’s half-naked body found dumped in Sydney bushland had been set ALIGHT – as police reveal her gruesome injuries

The half-naked body of a young woman found in bushland in Sydney’s south has signs that attempts were made to set it on fire, police said. 

Police were called to bushland near Sandy Point Quarry off Heathcote Road, Menai, at 5.15pm on Wednesday after a member of the public made the grim discovery.

The woman is yet to be formally identified, but she is believed to be aged in her 30s.

The homicide squad has been brought in and a crime scene has been established. 

Police said the woman’s body was found with head injuries and early examinations indicate that attempts had been made to set the body on fire, the Daily Telegraph reports.    

Investigators are still trying to determine whether she was killed at the scene or her body was dumped there later.

Specialist forensic police spent Thursday scouring the area for evidence. 

Local detectives and the State Crime Command’s Homicide Squad have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
