Youngest brother in Broken Arrow family massacre is found guilty

An Oklahoma jury has convicted the youngest of two brothers for stabbing to death their parents and three of their siblings in a 2015 massacre.

Jurors found Michael Bever, 19, guilty of five counts of first degree murder and one count of assault and battery on Wednesday night.

His older brother Robert, now 21, was convicted in 2016 and sentenced to life imprisonment without parole.

The pair murdered their parents, David and April Bever, younger brothers Daniel and Christopher, and their sister Victoria in a frenzied stabbing attack in July 2015 at their home in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma.

Their 13-year-old and two-year-old sisters survived.

The killers fled to the woods behind their house after the attack and were arrested by police.

During Michael’s trial, he said the attack was driven and orchestrated by his older brother who ‘hated’ society and ‘everyone’.

He admitted that he was obsessed with Columbine but claimed he only went along with his brother’s murderous plot to save his own life.

Michael, who was 16 at the time of the killings, pleaded not guilty on that basis.

He will be sentenced on Thursday morning. A life sentence is inevitable but the jury must decide whether he ought to ever be eligible for parole.

The killings began at around 11.30pm on July 22. It started with the boys attacking their 13-year-old sister.

She testified that they lured her into a bedroom where they slit her throat and stabbed her in the torso and arms. Miraculously, she survived.

As they attacked her, their mother April, 44, came to the bedroom to find out what was going on.

That is when they turned on her. She was stabbed nearly 50 times in the head, neck and torso.

Fifty-two-year-old David Bever was killed by 28 stab wounds to the head, neck and torso.

Daniel, 12, was able to call 911 before he succumbed to the nine stab wounds he sustained.

The youngest victim was five-year-old Victoria who the brothers stabbed 18 times.  Two-year-old Autumn was asleep throughout the attack and was not harmed.

During his trial, prosecutors heard how Michael tricked his siblings into opening locked doors as they hid from Robert by pretending that he too was under attack.

When police arrived at the family home, there was blood on the porch.

Michael and Robert had fled to the woods behind the house and were found by a police dog.

The brothers had planned to steal their parents’ car and drive to Washington State after carrying out the killings.

They wanted to shoot five people at a time in random attacks along the way using guns and ammunition Robert had been able to buy online.

Much of Michael's trial relied on claims made to police by the 13-year-old sister who survived (left). She was spared having to testify in court in October 2016 in exchange for Robert being spared execution
